Damon, Mike and I got together earlier this month to review the long version of BEYOND BLACK ROCK, following successful May screenings in Dublin and London. Armed with our notes and feedback from a trusted circle of friends, we knew the first order of business was to get our nearly three-hour runtime down to a sensible length.
Fortunately, Damon has done an amazing job of this, reorganizing and tightening scenes rather than removing elements of the film wholesale.

Mike and Damon work that movie magic.
While, in the broadest sense, BEYOND BLACK ROCK is about social revolution, it’s at its heart a story of people. And Damon has deftly extracted the passion and conflict of Burning Man staff, artists and participants to create compelling characters.
IN OTHER NEWS... Last week, we got a long-awaited visit from our Director of Photography Rob Van Alkemade who flew down from New York to join us in the editing room. We reviewed the long cut with him and discussed our notes as well as changes that were already underway.
Rob is an accomplished filmmaker and contributed a lot of new ideas and feedback. Damon then promptly chained him to a Mac, where he spent 75% of his trip sifting through our Big Ass Collection of Tapes ™ for visual flourishes and supporting Broll.
